چکیده
Aim. To determine whether adolescents with type 1 diabetes (T1D) have morphological changes of the corneal nerve fibers and reduced smell taste function compared to healthy control subjects as a sign cranial affection evaluate possible associated risk factors for affection. Methods. The study was part T1DANES including 60 (15–<19 years) 23 age-matched controls. First, clinical biochemical data on participants were obtained, second step involved test day neurological examinations confocal microscopy (CCM), olfactory testing Sniffin’ Sticks, gustatory assessment taste-drop test. Results. T1D (mean duration 9.8 years, mean HbA1c 61 mmol/mol) had lower CCM parameters (corneal fiber density, branch length, fractal dimension) (all p < 0.05 ). No differences in total score ( id="M2"> = 0.66 ) id="M3"> 0.47 found, but ability sweet id="M4"> 0.01 In total, 24% two or more parameters, 12% test, 23% abnormal Higher waist height ratio (WHtR) only factor found higher BMI-SDS WHtR impaired function. Having increased having perception, vice versa. Conclusion. Up 29% scores indicating Lower density subjects. Clinical attention seems important because it requires intervention advising

Corneal confocal microscopy detects early nerve regeneration after pancreas transplantation in patients with type 1 diabetes.
OBJECTIVE Corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) is a rapid, noninvasive, clinical examination technique that quantifies small nerve fiber pathology. We have used it to assess the neurological benefits of pancreas transplantation in type 1 diabetic patients. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS In 20 patients with type 1 diabetes undergoing simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplantation (SPK) and 15 cont...

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to quantify epithelial, stromal, and endothelial cell density, and subbasal nerve morphology in young patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus with and without diabetic retinopathy. METHODS A total of 28 young patients (mean age, 22.86 ± 9.05 years) with type 1 diabetes, with (n = 18) and without (n = 10) retinopathy, and 17 age-matched healthy control subjects...

OBJECTIVE We aimed to determine the corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) parameter that best identifies diabetic sensorimotor polyneuropathy (DSP) in type 1 diabetes and to describe its performance characteristics. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Concurrent with clinical and electrophysiological examination for classification of DSP, CCM was performed on 89 type 1 diabetic and 64 healthy subjects to...
متن کاملNormative Values for Corneal Nerve Morphology Assessed Using Corneal Confocal Microscopy: A Multinational Normative Data Set
OBJECTIVE Corneal confocal microscopy is a novel diagnostic technique for the detection of nerve damage and repair in a range of peripheral neuropathies, in particular diabetic neuropathy. Normative reference values are required to enable clinical translation and wider use of this technique. We have therefore undertaken a multicenter collaboration to provide worldwide age-adjusted normative val...
